Top 3 Athletic Scholarship Resource Sites You Need to Use

sport_scholarship_sitesOne of the great things about looking for scholarship information and organizations that can help you is that we are in the 21st century where we have access to the internet and resources.  I can’t imagine anyone that is pursuing a scholarship not looking at any of these resources these days.  However, because of the Internet, there are loads of websites (some good and some bad, by the way) that you can easily go to for help.  I have decided to list the top three sites here to help you get started.  I did find another website that has a load of organizations referenced and you can see that one here: The College Athletic Scholarships Page

National Collegiate Athletic Association

This organization was founded over 100 years ago.  Its purpose is to help and protect student athletes.  The NCAA is made up of several different classifications known as Divisions and they are known as Division I, Division IIII and Division III.  Each one of these divisions has their own rules regarding eligibility, financial aid and a host of other issues.   The main concern of the NCAA is to govern competition so that the sport is handled in a safe and fair manner.  It is basically an organization that maintains respect and fairness for the sport while supporting the education that the student receives.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

This is another important organization that is dedicated to balancing leadership, education and sports in a mix that promotes fairness across a wide spectrum of issues. The NAIA has been around since 1937 which means in 2012 the organization has celebrated 75 years of service to the college sports world.  Committed to equal opportunity in college sports, as well as providing access to athletic scholarships, the NAIA emphasizes the quality of character in the sports it promotes and supports.

The National Junior College Athletic Association

If you play sports, and are going to be attending a Junior College you can still get a scholarship and one of the best places to check out information about this is the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).  As stated above, this association promotes junior college athletics on a national and intersectional level.  A plethora of sports are covered under this association, to include: golf, soccer, tennis, cross country and a host of others, to include the three main sports of football, baseball, and basketball.  Their website includes a great resource page for scholarships and junior colleges that participate in varied scholarship programs which has an extensive, clickable interactive map.  If you don’t have the funds for college or can’t get a full ride, this may be an alternative for you to go to school and still play.

If you need another great resource, you can always use our FREE down loadable  e-book that will show you all of the steps you need to take in order to gain a sports scholarship by clicking here: The Athletic Scholarship Resource Guide

List of the Three Top Sports Scholarships

As you well know, the three top sports scholarships that everybody will probably want to be involved with are baseball, basketball and football. These are the three sports that seem to get all of the attention in the country, especially with the media. They have a huge fan base, and these sports originated in America and this is what makes them so popular with everyone. Because of the nature of these sports, these are the venues that have the most millionaires and fans that will spend money to go see these types of events. So, naturally the sports are the most popular categories for scholarships as well.

Believe it or not, professional basketball teams are now starting to draft students straight out of high school and into professional leagues. Usually, in football and baseball especially, professional football leagues recruit from colleges and universities. But everyday things change and nobody knows what the future holds for these sports.

At any rate, if you are going to attempt to get an athletic scholarship in any of these categories, you will need to diligently seek and promote yourself, because these are the most competitive scholarships that you will try to get your hands on.

Football Scholarships

Because of the number of recruits that are attempting to get a football scholarship at a university, coaches have quite a few prospects to weed out. Coaches usually create a chart called a “prospect depth chart” for the positions that they will need to recruit to. It is basically a method where they can look at your profile and determine whether or not you are right for the position.  This is why having a videotape of you actually playing a game is vital because they can take a look at your video to see if what you are telling them is true or not.  If you find out that you are not being considered for the position you’re trying to get with a particular university or college, you can send a letter and ask them to look at your tape again.  Once again, this is a proactive step that most other players won’t take, so you may be looked at with more favor if you do this.

Another good idea would be to find out what The coach that you are trying to get an appointment with his coaching during the summer and try to attend that camp.

Basketball Scholarships

Basketball scholarships are a little harder than football because there are fewer positions and scholarships available.  If you can, try to get more than two scholarships from different universities, because if you get into the position of negotiating your scholarship, you will have much better leverage in getting a good scholarship or financial aid award.

Once again, make sure that you have a good videotape of yourself playing again so that you can let the coach see what you can do on the court, and take the suggestions that have been put forth in the section on making your athletic scholarship videotape.  It is always a good idea to demonstrate as many shots that you are proficient in as you possibly can. That way the coaches will know what positions you would be best at, more than likely even better than you would know. ( After all, they are in the business of course!)

Baseball

The number one thing you can do to increase your chances of being a strong prospect in this game is to make sure that you can hit.  According to data I have researched, this is the number one area that you will want to focus on, even more so than catching fly balls, being able to pitch, or anything else.  So, it stands to reason that you will need to get as much batting time in as possible, and that will probably require you to go to a batting cage with great frequency. Just like any other sport, you will want to go to as many baseball camps as you can, and if you can get to know the coaches, especially if they have university connections, so much the better.

What Actually Happened at These Sports Events

sports_videography

Neck Limbo

Actually, this person was practicing the limbo and didn’t really understand the concept.  Joe Fladderblat, (#344) as seen in this picture, thought the dance was only supposed to involve bending his neck backwards.

He was rather successful at his version of the dance, because he still placed 3rd at the Golden Hills Retirement Club in Florida.  That is, until the judges found out that not only was he in the wrong age category (65-85 years of age) but also in the wrong weight category. The lack of stretch marks was what gave him away.

The 13K Roll and Run

This looks like it is an accident, but I can assure you that it is not.  This is the Kentucky 13K roll and run, sponsored by Little Bonnie Sweet Rolls.  In this sports event, runners run ¼ of a mile and then roll a ¼ of a mile the run ¼ of a mile and then roll a ¼ of a mile.

Eventually, the run usually ends at the 5K mark when the last person standing claims the title of “Little Sweet Roller” and is crowned with a tiara of cinnamon scented candles which are lit as the winner runs the last 8K by herself.  The rest of the runners cheer the winner as they gorge themselves on Little Bonnie Sweet Rolls and coffee.  Ahhhh, losing never tasted so good!

Faceball

Actually this is a sport and not a single event.  Faceball started in Corsica and has grown into a popular athletic fare in Baltic countries.

Unlike many other sports, this one involves food as well.  A mixture of beets, vinegar, and noodles is run through a blender and spread with pig fat on dry, salty crackers.  The 10 man teams must then ingest this paste and the ones who don’t get sick, then are forced to stand in front of a high power slingshot and defend a goal with their faces.

Each man on a tem, gets his turn to “defend his turf” by blocking the high velocity object with their faces.  Even though the sport looks quite painful, the members of each team play the game with great joy because the winning team doesn’t have to return to the mines for a week.  Many merry mishaps occur along the way, but the “facers” still play the game with great vigor.  A must see for the whole family.

If You Are Going to Get a Sports Scholarship You Need to Move Your Butt

Hope is a Mythical Beast that Won't Deliver

Hope is a fantasy.  It is a mythical character that you pray will one day show up at your door like the tooth fairy and hand you full ride scholarship to a decent university or college.  It is the stuff that procrastinators, lazy, ineffective persons dream about.  I guess we have come to believe this mythical creature because we have seen it so many times in our lives on TV and in the movies.  Usually, the protagonist has a problem and like a miracle, the problem is resolved by the time you watch the last commercial or the final reel of the movie.

However, reality is rarely like this.  Little Timmy is usually found too late by Lassie, Batman misses catching most of the crooks, and there isn’t a single politician that can solve the massive problems we face in America today.  That’s just life.  Get over it and move forward.  Let’s face it, the people that put their rears in gear are usually the ones that get to eat the leg of lamb in the castle, not the poor scavengers outside huddling around a fire in the cold.  It is simply the law of the Cul de Sac and it will always be that way.  Once again, get over it and move on. You have a daunting task ahead of you and if you are going to compete for a sports scholarship you have got to move forward toward that goal as quickly as you can.

Here are a couple of reasons why I’m telling you this.  Love me, hate me, this is just the way it is.  Don’t kill the messenger for telling you the truth.  So, in short order, here are a few things to keep in mind:

The Odds are Against You

There are roughly between 135, 000 and 140,000 athletic scholarships awarded each year.  Yeah, I know that sounds like a lot, but you have to consider that this is divided up between different sports categories.  For instance, only about 20,000 of those are football scholarships and usually there are about half a million students competing for these scholarships in that category alone.  So, you have a lot of competition ahead of you.  Not only that, but the NCAA dictates to the colleges and universities how many Division I and Division II scholarships can be awarded.

The Money Will Only get You so Far

On average, a college athletic scholarship will only get you somewhere in the vicinity of $15,000.  There are only four or five sports that you can get a full ride on, so the competition for these sports is incredible.  Not only that, you have to consider the cost of college and the expenses that are incurred along the way.  Not a super – pretty picture when you add it up. Also, scholarships are not guaranteed for the entire four years.  If your student receives their sports scholarship don’t assume it will be there especially if their grades begin to falter.

If You Think You Are Eligible You Need to Get Started

Don’t wait for the mythical beast hope to show up at your door.  The only way to get the scholarship that you think you can qualify for is to use the weapon of action.  Action has to be massive and consistent in order for you to obtain your goal of securing an athletic scholarship.  Not only will you be using this weapon as you pursue your athletic and college goals but it will be a skill set that you will use the rest of your life.

Four Ways to Better Your Chances of Getting a Sports Scholarship

One of the reasons why most people are not so successful in life is that they don’t know how to promote themselves. If you look at the sports world you will find one example after the

athletic_scholarship

other people who either improve themselves or knew how to promote themselves in the right way. If I were to follow you around all day long for a week would I say, “Gee, no wonder he or she is doing so well, look at everything they are doing!” Or when I wind up saying, “Gee, no wonder he or she isn’t doing so well, he or she is barely doing anything!”  So, if you want to promote yourself and take yourself stand out to coaches as you try to get an athletic scholarship, you need to take a lot of action and try to improve yourself every chance you get.

….the more that you do the better off you will be….

Here are five things that you can do to better your chances of getting a sports scholarship and you can implement them immediately:

  1. Get the highest grade you can in all of your classes. Colleges cannot and will not sign up students unless they have good enough grades to meet their admission standards. As a matter fact, I don’t know why anyone would go to a college or university that has low standards.  So, if you want to get into the good schools and obtain an athletic scholarship, you must first meet the academic with garments for that school. If you are having problems any particular area, you need to hire a tutor and you need to do it as fast as you can. If you’re having problems and math, the sooner that you get a tutor and put the hours in to learn and practice doing equations, the better off you will be.  Procrastination will get you absolutely nowhere, but that is the usual fare I find whenever I deal with students. They would rather wait until their graves are at a critical position that they almost can do nothing to get a better grade and they put in the minimal amount of work to get a good grade. If you want to have good grades take a lot of action and get the help that you need
  2. Go to as many camps that are related to your sport that you can. If there are summer camps that you can attend and other seminars that will help you let yourself at your sport, you should try to go to them at any cost. As a matter of fact, if a camp or a seminar is pretty pricey, then chances are it may be a high quality one that you would want to be associated with. However, if you cannot afford camps or seminars that are related to your sport, then perhaps you should get an extra job so that you can afford going to one of these. The students that will stand out will be was the put in extra work and will do whatever it takes. Perhaps you to get a copy of the movie “Rudy” out. Now, that’s a story for somebody who was willing to do whatever it took to achieve what they needed to in their sport.
  3. You will need to write letters to coaches and take a lot of action and promoting yourself. At Ellistrations Sports Scholarship Videography we have an entire Athletic Scholarship Action Package that you can use to promote yourself. This action package contains letters that you can copy and use to send coaches, stat cards with professional looking pictures on them, a high quality video, and action manual tell you exactly how to promote yourself and a host of other excellent features to include a personalized website. If you used all of the materials that were included in this action package you would greatly increase your chances of promoting yourself and getting the athletic scholarship that you need.
  4. Enlisting help from your teachers, counselors, parents and friends will help you tremendously in your quest to get an athletic scholarship at the college that you want. You will also want to get a hold of people that are at the universities or colleges and already playing to see if they can help you with advice, connections and a host of other important facets that networking will bring to the table. You will need to network with as many people that you need to in order to understand how the game is played when it comes to obtaining an athletic scholarship.

Remember, the more that you do the better off you will be. Sitting around and whining that nobody has called you or made any connections with you is a bad way to promote yourself. Always keep in mind that obtaining an athletic scholarship in going to college is like a job and you need to work hard and whatever you do. Don’t sit back like the rest of the world and procrastinate and hope that your phone will ring off the hook with offers two different colleges and universities. You must take massive action in order to accomplish your goals and this is one of the best times to learn that lesson.

How to Supercharge Your Athletic Scholarship Search

sports_scholarship_videographyIf you’re planning on getting an athletic scholarship anytime in the near future you need to pay attention to this blog post because what I’m about to show you will help you achieve your goals much quicker and allow you to have a plan of action that will be conducive to your search. If you have been following this blog for any particular amount of time you will notice that there is a link on the right-hand side of the blog page that shows you how to get to articles concerning the sports scholarship process. But to even make it more easy, I have written a book that you can easily download for free, which will show you how to get a sports scholarship and the process that is involved in obtaining one.

Get Motivated and Take Action

Much of this blog post is more about getting the lead out than it is about what forms to fill out. If you want to know what forms to fill out and how to contact coaches, read my free sports scholarship guide. However, you will need motivation and determination to get to the whole entire plan in motion so that you can obtain the athletic scholarship that you need.  The main thing you need to remember is that without taking any action, you will get nowhere. It’s the same thing with anything else you do in life if you want to be successful.

There is a basic formula that you can think about which will summarize this whole entire process and allow you to understand what you need to do in order to succeed at this game.

Here is the formula:  Less responsibility equals less success and more responsibility equals more success.

It really isn’t a very difficult concept to understand, but if you want to be successful in life you have to take more action and take more responsibility, that’s all there is to it. So, the more action that you take on a diligent basis and do it consistently, the more success you will have in your process of obtaining an athletic scholarship. I’m often reminded about a scene in the movie Wall Street where the Donald Trump-esque Gordon Geckko is talking to his young apprentice Budd Fox. They’re both driving down the street in the car talking about success and they pass two men standing on the street; one man is a bum wearing filthy clothes the other an obviously successful businessman. Gordon Geckko looks at the two men and says to his young apprentice, “you mean to tell me the only difference between those two men on that street is luck?”  Now, even though the Gordon Geckko character was a devious and unscrupulous man, the point was pretty important; between success and failure there really is no luck.

You Need to Learn in Order to Earn

To achieve anything in life, you really need to spend some time learning about what you are getting into. This seems to be a major mistake with most people because they fail to spend the necessary time learning about the field that they are going into, and how to obtain their goals. For example, if you are going to be a professional fisherman, you should be reading all of the books that you can on how to fish. You can easily go to any bookstore and pick up books by expert fisherman and learn about the different techniques and tools that successful fishermen use. You can also subscribe to many of their magazines and trade journals to find out about as much as you can about the sport as well.  Not only should you be consulting magazines and books, but you should be looking for people that are successful at what you want to learn as well.

One of the most successful salesman in the pharmaceutical industries went out and met every professional pharmaceutical salesman that was successful that he could find. He took notes and asked to see if he could follow them around for a few days. Out of 49 of these salesmen that he contacted, only one turned him down. The result was he knew exactly what he had to do to start a successful career in pharmaceutical sales.   So, if you are going to be successful at anything you need to try to find as many people in the profession that you want to go into and pick their brains.

If I were to ask you how many books you have read on how to obtain a sports scholarship, how many can you actually say that you have read? If you’ve not read very many, or consulted  people that are in the profession of helping others get athletic scholarships, then you might want to consider reading and finding people that can help you. I can’t believe how many people claim they want to get somewhere in life and never take the first step in that direction. In the first step should be gathering information that you will need to succeed in your goals.

Ellistrations Sports Scholarship Videography’s List of Three Top Success Books

sports_scholarshipsIf you find yourself scratching your head as you wonder if you are going to be able to actually get an athletic scholarship, then you may want to pay attention to this post.  The problem with many of you is that you haven’t been listening or reading.  Sure, you have been listening and reading in your personal lives, but is it stuff that will make your life any better?

If you are listening to music with depressing lyrics or rap that has a very destructive message chances are your life will be impacted by those messages.  The same could be said about what you are watching and engaging your mind with on television as well as the Internet.  Not only can you infect your mind with addictions and negative thoughts, but you may be wasting an incredible amount of time with worthless communications and games on the Internet.

Did you know that on average, a millionaire reads between 1 and 2 books a month?   No, they are not reading romance novels or sci-fi, they are reading books that will positively impact their lives.  If you really want to have success in your life, you need to start learning and gaining knowledge in areas that will positively influence you.  Another little known fact about people that are affluent is the fact that their library of books on self improvement is usually larger than their televisions.  As a matter of fact, one millionaire that has helped more people become successful and affluent states that he can easily tell how well a person is doing financially by looking at the size of his library and T.V.

So, success is rarely pure luck, it is more often attributed to hard work, diligence and a good knowledge base.  Listening to destructive music, or even news reports constantly can do nothing more than get you depressed and impact your attitude as you try to get your ducks lined up for college.

Here is a list of a few of the books I have personally read in the last few years that have really impacted my life.

  1. #1 Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  This is the ultimate success book that was written over 75 years ago has impacted the lives of millions and helped to launch more success stories than any one single book on the planet.  It would be hard to imagine anyone that was an avid reader of success stories or books that has not read this or at least has several in their library.  An absolute must read.
  2. #2 The Ultimate Success Secret by Dan Kennedy.  I got a hard copy of this small manual several years ago and I read it over again at least twice a year.  Written by Dan “The Millionaire Maker” Kennedy it is one of the most powerful messages I have ever read.  It focuses on the magic of taking massive amounts of action in order to change your financial life and business!  This read is a must for anyone that wants to better their situation in life.
  3. #3 Psycho- Cybernetics  by Maxwell Maltz.  Have you ever watched the Winter Olympics and noticed downhill skiers standing on the platform right before their run?  They usually have their eyes closed and their heads move slightly as they visualize their run down the slopes.  This is the power of visualizing before you do a particular thing and it is the basis of Psycho-Cybernetics.   I read this book years ago and it helped me while I was attending school.  It is a definitive guide to setting, visualizing and attaining goals and bringing you to the level of a high performer.  I can’t imagine any athlete who is pursuing a sports scholarship not being able to use this book.

For those of you interested, I have a free copy of Dan Kennedy’s Ultimate Success Secret for you, and you can get it by clicking here:  Success Principles

How to Select a Good Sports Scholarship Videographer

Athletic _VideographerFinding a good videographer, whether it is for a wedding or a sports event, is a difficult process for many people because it is not a service that you will probably not be familiar with.  Unless you are in an industry that requires video on a consistent basis, you won’t be familiar with what a good sports videographer can do for you.  In this article, I will attempt to point out a few things that you should look for when you are looking for one to contract.

Customer Service

One of the things that we try to do at Ellistrations Sports Scholarship Videography is to provide our clients with top notch, customer service and that personal touch that will make your experience with us a very comfortable one.  We don’t just let our clients drop off the face of the earth once we provide our services to them.  So, one of the facets of a videographer that you should be looking at is how well they will work with you during your project or filming and how they follow up with e-mail or phone calls as you are trying to set up a project with them.

Pricing

One of the biggest mistakes I think people make when buying anything from products to services is to look for the cheapest thing or service that you can get your hands on.  Personally, I won’t even buy cheap garbage bags much less pay for an important service at a very cheap price.  F0r one thing, you will wind up getting what you pay for, and the other thing is that you really can’t lay high expectations on people that you have barely paid.

if you ask your Uncle Albert to take your videos for free, expect to get the quality of work that you paid for

I had an employee buy garbage bags for me once, and he bought the cheapest ones he could find.  Well, the garbage ripped out as soon as we put any type of garbage in them and as a result, we had to not only clean up a big mess, but we also had to take the time to go back to the store and buy more expensive ones.  So, if you ask your Uncle Albert to take your videos for free, expect to get the quality of work that you paid for.

Recommendations

Usually, a reputable company will have a website that you go to and look at their services.  If a videography business is really smart, they will have comments by customers on their site with written testimonials.  This is a real easy way to see how the company functions and whether or not they have people that are happy with their services.  However, I have seen some very good videographers that have over looked this step of putting accolades on their site, so, it is not always an indicator of a great business, but it is certainly one that is worth the consideration.

Services

Not everyone needs the same services or requirements for an athletic scholarship video.  In some cases, students and their parents would only like a keepsake or highlights video of their athletic year or events.  A good videographer will have different packages to offer you depending on what you will need.  Here is a list of some of the services Ellistrations Sports Scholarship Videography has:

  • An entire sports scholarship action package
  • Highlight videos with players stats
  • Highlight videos for teams to use at banquets
  • Keepsake videos for friends and relatives ( We have the ability to make these on demand with professionally packaged cases)
  • Different levels of sports scholarship videos

The main thing to remember with any videographer is that if you need to hire the services of a good one that you will need to start searching for the services of one well in advance.  Videographers are just like any service related business, in that they can only be in one place at a time.

The Weird World of Sports! By Ellistrations Sports Scholarship Videography

Sometimes I think I have fallen asleep and awoken in a world that is so weird, it would make the virtual world in the Matrix look like Sunday school.  Today, I have decided to depart from my usual serious blog posting about how to get a scholarship, and show you a couple of really strange sports that actually exist.  Now, some of these events that I am about to show you are marginal sports and many of you no doubt will probably write me, call me or yell at me from across the mall telling me that some of these events are not sports.  But what defines a sport anyway?

Webster’s Dictionary describes a sport as such:  physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2): a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in.

So, a particular activity is what usually defines a sport.  It should come as no surprise then, that some of these activities are now considered as sports and usually get treated as such which brings me to my first weird sports event.

Starcraft: Brood War Professional Competition

In case you don’t know, Starcraft created by Blizzard Entertainment is a very popular computer game fashioned after Blizzard’s other very popular computer game, Warcraft.   Both of these games are very similar except Warcraft resembles Lord of the Rings, whereas Starcraft resembles Lord of the Rings in Space.

Anyway, the game has been made into a sport in South Korea, featuring views of the players, the computer screen the players are going mano a mano in an all out battle, while sports announcers enthusiastically comment on the action as if it were happening at the  Summer Olympics.

The tournament says “Professional” on it, which leads us to believe it is being played for money.

Although I couldn’t find out how much money the competitors made from their winnings, I did see that there were world rankings in this most unusual sport and that these people were pretty popular among their fans.

Professional Kite Flying in Thailand

If you ever go to Thailand in the months of February through March you’ll see a lot of people flying kites of every size and shape.  Kite sales during these months are huge and Bangkok’s skies just about explode with all sorts of colorful kites, of every size, shape and design.

So, it should come as no surprise that there are contests and competitions built around these soaring pieces of art all across the country.  As a matter of fact, there are team sports built around kites as well.  On really gusty days, (don’t ask me how they know what days to schedule these events)  these teams work together to fly kites against each other to see which kite team can snare the other teams kite and then drag the other team’s kite into their territory.

Apparently, these events are sponsored by people and businesses with big money, and they have turned these past times into sporting events.

Live Olympic Pigeon Shooting

Yes, they used to kill animals at the Olympics.  In this case, the event was only held one time back in 1900.  The object of this sports contest was basically shoot to see how many birds that you can kill as you can.  They released a batch of birds at once, and the shooter that could shoot down the most pigeons at once, was the winner.  (Good thing Dick Cheney wasn’t there…)

If you missed two birds, you were eliminated from the contest.  During the event, 300 pigeons were shot and the clean up was pretty bad because pigeon bodies littered the Olympic grounds considerably.  In the end, no feathers were really ruffled because the winners split $20,000 between 4 people.
